Advancing your sustainable transition

The regional framework “Sustainable Tourism in Nouvelle-Aquitaine”

To avoid getting lost in the jungle of labels, we have developed a shared regional framework designed to identify stakeholders committed to sustainable tourism.

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Tourism Board supports you in understanding and interpreting these sustainable initiatives.

The Regional Framework

Identifying and promoting the most committed suppliers

The framework assesses commitments across the three pillars of sustainable tourism — environmental, social and economic responsibility. It is structured around 43 criteria (25 “priority” criteria and 18 “progress” criteria), grouped into six evaluation areas:

  • Communication and transparency
  • Governance, employment and working conditions
  • Environmental management
  • Local development and relationships with residents and regional stakeholders
  • Partnerships
  • Inclusion and accessibility

Existing initiatives in Nouvelle-Aquitaine have been evaluated against these regional criteria. This assessment enables the selection of the most rigorous labels, standards and certifications, classified into two levels:

Level 1

Advanced Commitment

For schemes demonstrating more than 50% alignment with the regional framework requirements.

Level 2

Intermediate Commitment

For schemes demonstrating 20% to 50% alignment with the regional framework requirements.
