WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
CHARTER
- A framework of pledges that each signatory agrees to uphold
- Voluntary – without inspections
LABEL
- Branding granted by a professional federation or semi‑public organization, confirming that the product meets specified criteria for origin, standards, and manufacturing conditions
- Attributed by a public or private organisation
CERTIFICATION
- Certifies compliance with a defined reference framework or international standard
- Attributed by an approved and independent third party

EU ECOLABEL

Founded in 2017
- The only official ecolabel recognised by all EU member states
- 67 criteria including 22 compulsory requirements : General management, Energy and water use, Waste and wastewater, Other (green transport promotion, raising awareness among
visitors etc.)
GREEN KEY
Type: label
Sector: accommodation and restaurants Founded in 1994
- Exists in 70 countries (Clef Verte/Green Key)
- Over 60 criteria (compulsory and recommended): Sustainable policy and environmental awareness, Water, energy and waste management, Sustanable purchasing (food, cleaning products etc.), Living environment etc.
NF ENVIRONNEMENT – VISITOR SITES
Type: certification
Sector: visitor sites
Founded in 2014
- Recognises initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint of visitor sites
- 74 criteria including 28 mandatory ones: Sustainable purchasing, Waste Water, Energy, General site management etc.
