Toulouse, England and Bordeaux have left their mark on the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne
with their fantastic history, heritage, nature, food and drink.
This itinerary introduces visitors to these lands with personality, lush and rolling scenery filled with bastides, châteaux, mills and traditional villages.

DAY 1: AGEN (LOT-ET-GARONNE)
Intercités train services from Bordeaux (1 hr 15)

Morning: visit (on foot) Agen old town to see its many medieval lanes lined with half-timbered houses. Walk along the Garonne riverbanks to the port over the famous “aqueduct” (19th century) which boats can sail over the river on.

Afternoon: tour of the Musée des Beaux-Arts home to a collection of over 3000 pieces of fine art in a Toulouse, England and Bordeaux have left their group of four Renaissance-style manors.

DAY 2: SARLAT AND LES EYZIES (DORDOGNE)
Sarlat: TER train services from Bordeaux (2 hr 20)
Les Eyzies: TER train services from Périgueux (30 min)

Morning: dramatised tour (by Tourist Information) of medieval Sarlat. Head up Sainte-Marie Church for 360° views of the town’s rooftops. The bell tower was turned into a glass lift by the architect Jean Nouvel. Go on a craft trail to meet the town’s artisans (leaflets available from Tourist Information).

Afternoon: take the train (TER) to Les Eyzies, the world capital of Prehistory. Visit its Prehistory Visitor Centre and/or the fun-filled and interactive Cro-Magnon Shelter.

DAY 3: PÉRIGUEUX (DORDOGNE)
TER train services from Bordeaux (1 hr 20) or Limoges (1 hr)

Morning: explore the old town (Périgueux Cathedral, Gallo-Roman district around the Roman arena, Tour de Vésone tower etc.) then head to Musée Vesunna, designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, to learn about
Périgueux’s Roman roots on the site of a sprawling Gallo-Roman house.

Afternoon: walk or ride on the bike path (15km) on the Isle riverbanks.
